I havent had my windsurfer in the water in 10 years. After spending time in Flagstaff this summer around lake Mary,I started to get interested again. The winds appear to be decent up there and the weather so much nicer than the valley this time of year.Does anyone windsurf on that lake?
Allan Toronto, Ontario Canada 1 Apr 2008

scott Peoria, AZ 3 Feb 2006

Brian, March can be one of the best months for wind. Look for strong high pressure building. Best wind will be sunrise to 10 or 11 and will blow from the North. A 5.0 sail is a common size to use for these conditions

Just got back from the abk class at South Padre Island. We had a great time. The level of instruction was great. The rental gear was also great .I tried several boards and sails.I would recommend this trip to anyone interested in learning or improving. The most fun was meeting others interested in windsurfing.
Ramona Nelson Las Vegas, Nevada USA 2 Dec 2004

Hi Guys and Gals,
The North winds are here and the best place to be windsurfing is down at Catherine's landing, Lake Mohave next to Bullhead City AZ and Laughlin. The winds are great down there especially for those shortboards. Go check it out one day and get back into windsurfing again. For the drylake people to skate sail etc. check out Ivanpah drylake here in Nevada right at Stateline Nevada where Buffalo Bills Casino and Resort is. Today it's blowing in the 30's. Come on out to the March Spring kite buggy blast and also the Landsailing Trials in March.

Aloha

I am from the east coast where I did most of my windsurfing and skatesailing. I am tempted to try it here in one of the lakes. I need alot of wind to move my shortboards. The comment from one of the guests right before me mentioned that he skatesailed. Peter, I would love to meet up with you and sail together. Were do you go? My email address is jlangaker@crownaz.com Thanks!
Peter Froeb Phoenix, AZ 10 Nov 2004

I learned how to windsurf at Lake Ashurst in 1982.
Moved on to SF bay, Jalama, Waddell Creek etc. Moved back to Phoenix, don't sail at all now. Well actually, I've moved it to land, and go skate sailing. Now I never miss a jibe! No matter how windy it is, there is no chop! All I need is a large parking lot! Glad to see it coming back.
Anybody want to buy a Bic Electric Rock 8'8" with rig and 4.5 & 5.0 sails? $300!

Ramona Nelson Las Vegas, Nevada 21 Oct 2004

Hi Everyone,
The North winds are coming and your best bet is to Windsurf at Catherine's Landing in Laughlin/Bullhead City off of Lake Mohave. Last week the winds were awesome for kiting and windsurfing. Last Wednesday it blew to 50mph. This week were South winds and it was ripping too. Love to see more windsurfers down there. They call Catherine's Landing (Cabin Site Cove) gorge like conditions. Come down towards Thanksgiving when the wind switches to the North again.
Ann Peoria, AZ 16 Oct 2004

See you Nov. 6th @ Lake Pleasant...noon... for the monthly "sail-in"!
Scott Schmidt Peoria, AZ 21 Sep 2004

Possible dawn patrol at Lake Pleasant tomorrow (9-22-04). The lake level is now low enough to launch on the East side of the lake right into the turbo zone when the Northerlies are blowing. My prefered lauch until the lake rises.
Nate Baxter Portland, OR 17 Sep 2004

I'm glad to have found this site. I'll be relocating from OR to the Phoenix area in the near future and am interested in doing what I can to get the local windsurfing scene up and moving. The situation at Town lake sounds interesting. Let me know what I can do to help.
Tracy Weaver Carefree, AZ 12 Sep 2004

I'm so excited to hear about your web site! What can I do to help with Tempe Town Lake? They do allow triathlons there now - why not windsurfing? I'm originally from Maryland, then went to New Mexico (awesome spring winds in NM - Morgan Lake in the 4 corners area is a blast --windy early spring and is like sailing in a bath tub with the warm water), then to Seattle, followed by the Columbia River Gorge area and now the Scottsdale area.
Ken Zwier Mesa 6 Sep 2004

Hi. I was looking up the latest information about the Tempe Town Lake situation and found your site. Looks great.

Len and fellow windsurfers.

Hello. Myself and my family just moved to Tucson as a result of a job chase. Had lived the previous 5 years in the NW. Near that windy river! Greatest 5 years of my life and sailing career.

I grew up in FLA. Got started sailing at 12 y/o with my folks. Been a addict ever since. Finally got the wife and kids started last summer in the Gorge. (of course they love it and my spouse is kicking herself for not giving it a go sooner!) But... we had to move to Tucson!

ARRRRGGGHHHH.

Not about Tucson or AZ. Everyone has been great and the area abounds with recreational activities. But I am really concerned with the sailing situation. I am hoping that signing up for the forum will help me find some info on desert sailing and perhaps tips on driving into MX for some wind searching.

Len, I didn't have any luck with the sign up process. Is there a way you can check on my registration?

Thanks and I hope to see you all around on the local lakes or maybe even in Baja!

Tom

Len, I got an email from Diana Meyer (City of Tempe - Rio Salado)on 06-23-04, regarding Windsurfing at Tempe Town Lake:
The announcement that we would be allowing windsurfing was premature. The issue is keeping the quality of the water safe for full body contact 100% of the time as well as the fact that the county requires the lake to have a bath house with showers if we allowed this.
Todd Hudson Mesa, AZ 26 Jun 2004

Thanks for your campaign Jeff! Heard the good news about Tempe Town Lake and was hoping there was a windsurfing meeting spot on the web for AZ windsurfers.

I am planning to share ownership of a beginner/intermediate board. Anyone know if there is any place near the Tempe Town lake where I could possibly store it? I welcome ideas. Also if anyone is interested in sharing ownership let me know. SunNWaterFun@hotmail.com or 480-430-8523
